SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Mansfield's Kennedy Hardy
What she did: Hardy hit a walkoff two-run double in the bottom of the seventh Thursday to give Mansfield a 10-9 win over Odessa in Game 1 of a best-of-3 Class 6A area-round playoff series. Hardy hit a game-tying three-run home run in the fifth inning in Game 2 on Friday as Mansfield rallied from a 7-1 deficit and won 9-7. Hardy went 3 for 7 with six RBIs in the series sweep as Mansfield (29-0-1) remained unbeaten and advanced to face defending state champion Keller in a one-game 6A Region I quarterfinal at 7:30 p.m. Friday at UT-Arlington.

Who is she? A junior designated player. She has committed to Thomas University, an NAIA school in Georgia.

The stats: Hardy is hitting .472 with 42 RBIs, 31 runs and a team-leading nine home runs in 30 games. She has hit .429 with eight RBIs in four playoff games.

She said it: "They give me such a rush. I love playing for my team and having situations like that." -- Kennedy Hardy on hitting in pressure situations, like she faced in both games against Odessa

Coach said it: "Kennedy is a clutch hitter. She has come up big for us all year. She thrives in pressure situations. Kennedy is not going to get cheated at the plate, she's always looking for the big hit." -- Jennifer Haltom

Did you know? Hardy plans to major in health science and hopes to become an X-ray technician.
